The filter basket (also called a micro filter or basket screen) is the small mesh screen fitted inside the base of a fuel injector, just above the pintle assembly. Its job is simple but critical: strain out dirt, rust flakes, and other contaminants before fuel reaches the injector's metering valve and spray tip. Over time these screens trap enough debris to restrict flow, which shows up as rough idle, hesitation, misfires, poor fuel economy, and a disrupted spray pattern that increases emissions and carbon buildup on valves and pistons.
Because a clogged or torn filter basket can't be cleaned back to spec, it should be replaced — not reused — any time an injector is pulled apart for cleaning, ultrasonic servicing, or a full rebuild. PROCHARGE INJECTORS stocks filter baskets in the common OEM sizes used across automotive, marine, and small-engine fuel injectors, so you can match the exact fit for your injector body instead of guessing with a generic universal screen.
